In 2020, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted a new regulation for all Member States. The regulation replaces Regulation (EC) No 1222/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council. It sets out improved tire labeling requirements and applies to all tires manufactured or placed on the market in the EU from 1 May 2021. Under this regulation, manufacturers must, in addition to fuel efficiency, wet grip performance and external rolling noise, also provide further information on snow and ice grip if the tires have been specifically designed for use in extreme snow and ice conditions. In addition, a QR code must be included in the tire labeling. The EU tire label generally applies, with a few exceptions, to passenger car tires, van tires and truck tires (tire classes C1, C2 and C3).
